Atlanta Public Library Displays Regional Art

3/6/2006
The Atlanta Public Library Advisory Board is partnering with the Atlanta Art League to display artwork throughout the Atlanta Public Library on a regular basis. The Advisory Board is committed to strong community participation and engaging educational outreach. Increasing access to the arts is one of the strategic goals for the Advisory Board. The arts not only enhance rural communities but also give voice to how rural Americans may experience and draw inspiration from the landscape.

Art is found in every community. Musicians, dancers, poets, quilters, painters, storytellers, woodcarvers, potters, basketmakers--all contribute to a sense of local identity. Artisits also help strengthen and diversify the economies of rural communities. That is why the Atlanta Public Library Advisory Board is working to increase access to the arts through the local library.

This month, the Atlanta Public Library will feature the artwork of Cynara Shelton. On Monday, March 13th, the library will host an "Evening with the Artist" reception open to the public. Patrons will be able to view the many paintings on display in the library and artisits will be on hand to answer any questions. The Library Advisory Board hopes the exhibit inspires local viewers to become involved in the arts and in the community.
